A brewhouse contains all of the vessels, kettles, tanks and other brewing equipment necessary for the brewing process (see fermenters, brew kettles, mash tuns, and lauter tuns). The brewhouse is both the heart and engine of your brewery whether you are a first-time homebrewer or a large-scale commercial enterprise. Many of the most critical processes in the successful creation of the end product are performed in the brewhouse including mashing, boiling, lautering, and more. Although brewhouses vary in capacity, features, complexity, etc., all brewhouses require a heating source to boil the wort; the three most common brewhouse heating sources are 1) steam, 2) direct fire, and 3) electric.
