A wort chiller is a refrigeration system or heat exchanger that cools boiled wort at a rapid rate down to temperatures where yeast can be safely pitched. When done properly this rapid cooling causes a cold break which allows solids to precipitate out of the wort solution for separation from the desired liquid.
With Portland Kettle Works’ brewing systems, we use food-grade propylene glycol in our wort chillers; these units are simply called glycol chillers.
See PKW glycol chillers for detailed specifications.
